The Directorate are the guiding force that has funded, supplied and encouraged the build up of war material leading up to the Dindrenzi invasion of the Storm Zone. Their leader, Chairman Ervan Bas, lived through the Terran War, and holds a fierce grudge against the politicians of the Terran Alliance.

What is today called the The Directorate was founded in 3625 from a merger between three of the most powerful corporations in what was originally the Terran Commonwealth. The operatives of these corporations remain the most influential in the Directorate. They are Hark Williams (H), Melcon (M) and Works Raptor (R).

The Directorate Systems are full of laboratories, research facilities and military encampments that are run by various corporations, most of which owe their existence to the patronage of Ervan Bas and the Directorate. The two most powerful corporations in the Outer Reach were once Hark Dynamics and Williams Temple; they merged into the Directorate and were fundamental in assisting the breakaway of the Commonwealth from Terran control.
